Privacy Policy

This policy explains what we collect when you book a jam session or a table with us, why we hold it, who else gets to see it, and how to ask us to delete it. It covers this website and the WhatsApp messages we send about your booking.

Silaa The Garden Cafe is a proprietorship trading as SILAA CAFE, legal name SAHANA SUDHAKARA, with gardens at Malleshwaram and HSR Layout in Bengaluru and at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad. We are the data fiduciary for the information described here.

What we collect

When you book, we ask for what we need to hold the seat and get you through the door:

• Your name, so we can find your booking at the gate
• Your phone number, for the confirmation and if we need to reach you about that evening
• Your email address, for the confirmation and ticket
• Booking details — the garden, date, session, number of seats, and the table you were seated at
• Any food you pre-order, and the times you want each course served
• Celebration details, if you tell us about one — the occasion, who it is for, a cake, a song request, a plant
• Payment confirmation — the amount and a reference from our payment provider

We also keep a record of your past bookings with us, so that staff can see you have visited before and so we do not ask you the same things twice.

Separately, we collect anonymous statistics about how the website is used — which pages are opened and roughly where visitors are in the world. This uses no cookies and does not identify anyone.

Why we hold it

To perform the booking you asked for, to serve you on the night, to send your confirmation and ticket, to keep our own accounts as Indian tax law requires, and to resolve disputes about a payment.

We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of services to run the booking. Each one only receives what it needs:

Some of these store data on servers outside India. We will also disclose information where the law requires it.

WhatsApp messages

When you book, we send your confirmation and ticket to the phone number you gave us, over WhatsApp. That message is part of the booking you asked for.

We will only send you anything else on WhatsApp — news of upcoming jam nights, or an invitation to return — if you have separately told us you want it. If you have opted in, you can stop it at any time by replying STOP to any such message, or by writing to us. Stopping these does not affect confirmations for bookings you make afterwards.

How long we keep it

Booking and payment records are kept for eight years, which is what Indian tax and accounting rules require of us. Website statistics are anonymous and retained for six months. If you ask us to delete your information, we will, except for the records we are legally obliged to keep.

Keeping it safe

The site is served entirely over an encrypted connection. Access to booking records is limited to Silaa staff who need it to do their work, and is password protected. No system is perfect, and we cannot promise absolute security, but we take it seriously.

Children

The booking service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Children are of course welcome in the gardens, with a booking made by an adult.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to:

• Tell you what information we hold about you
• Correct anything that is wrong or out of date
• Delete your information, subject to the records we must keep
• Withdraw a consent you previously gave
• Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to

Write to us and we will respond. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be brought to your attention when you next book.
